Aftercare
General guidance. Your artist or piercer will give you the steps for your piece, and theirs come first.
Tattoo
- Leave the wrap on for as long as your artist tells you.
- Wash your hands, then wash the tattoo gently with lukewarm water and a mild, unscented soap. Pat it dry with clean paper towel.
- Apply a thin layer of the aftercare cream your artist recommends. Thin is better than thick.
- Do not pick, scratch or peel. Let flakes fall off on their own.
- No baths, pools, sea or sauna until it has healed, usually two to four weeks.
- Keep it out of the sun while it heals, and use sunscreen on it once it has.
Piercing
- Wash your hands before you touch the piercing.
- Clean it once or twice a day with sterile saline spray, then let it air dry or pat with clean paper towel.
- Do not twist or turn the jewellery.
- Avoid pools, the sea, make-up and hair products on the area while it heals.
- Try not to sleep on it. A travel pillow helps for ear piercings.
- Leave the jewellery in until your piercer says it is ready to change.
